University of Melbourne (UOM)

The University of Melbourne is one of the largest universities in Australia with its main student campus at Parkville, a village-like precinct just a mile north of Melbourne’s city center. To complete the program, students must finish 50 points (which translates into 15 credits and 5 course equivalents).

University of New South Wales (UNSW)

Located in Kensington, a suburb of Sydney, the University of New South Wales is famous for its strength in the social sciences, fine arts, and business course work. Georgetown considers a full courseload at the University of New South Wales to be 24 points per semester (generally 4 courses). Students who have completed 24 points will receive 15 credits and 5 course equivalents.

University of Sydney (USYD)

Only two miles southwest of the center of Sydney, the University of Sydney is Australia’s oldest and largest university. The main campus, stands on a 72-hectare site and has several renowned modern buildings, such as the Fisher Library, Australia’s largest university library. A full load at the University of Sydney is between 22-24 credits per semester (typically 4 courses). Courses at the University of Sydney vary in the amount of credits awarded (some classes may be worth 12, others are worth only 2 credits). Students successfully completing 22-24 points will receive 15 Georgetown credits and 5 course equivalents.

Other Programs in Australia

Student who cannot find an academically appropriate program through Georgetown may petition their dean to receive credit for a non-Georgetown program. Potential institutions for non-Georgetown overseas programs in Australia include the Australian National University (ANU) and the University of Queensland. Founded in 1883, the University of Auckland is consistently ranked among the world’s top research universities and is New Zealand’s largest university. Eight faculties of the University of Auckland offer a comprehensive range of research-based study programs, including a Maori studies program which offers students an opportunity to study a language and culture unique to New Zealand. Georgetown considers a full courseload at the University of Auckland to be 60 points per semester (4 courses). Students successfully completing 60 points will receive 15 Georgetown credits and 5 course equivalents.
