Emil Friberg is affiliated with CANZPS and has previously led a Pacific Islands Seminar as an Adjunct Faculty member. Previously, he was an Assistant Director/Senior Economist at the U.S. GAO. At GAO, he managed multiple interdisciplinary teams of analysts, auditors, economists, editors, engineers, statisticians, and attorneys in assessing U.S. government operations, programs, and policies, making recommendations to improve government operations, and preparing reports for Congress. His responsibilities include reviews of the implementation of Compacts of Free Association with the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Palau, regarding the role of U.S. economic assistance; the viability of trust funds to support government operations; and compact migration. His other review areas included: federal grants and minimum wage and immigration implementation in U.S. Pacific territories; USAID and MCC programs; federal trade advocacy and policy; and State Department workforce diversity. Emil Friberg holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
