Dr. Hellman became the newest Dean of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service on July 1st, 2015, after being named the first chief institutional economist of the World Bank. Having served at the World Bank since 2000, he assisted in aid and development efforts in many challenged countries and in response to disasters like the 2004 tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia and held positions such as Director of the Fragile and Conflict-Affected States Department, working in nearly 50 countries across four continents.
Dean Hellman holds a Ph.D. in political science from Columbia and an M.Phil. in Russian and East European Studies from Oxford. He has taught in the political science departments of both Columbia University and Harvard University and worked with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London.
