Helen Clark, former New Zealand PM, at Georgetown University

Helen Clark, New Zealand’s prime minister (1999-2008), visited Georgetown University on Tuesday, September 15. At an event hosted by the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, and co-sponsored by CANZPS. She focused on the challenges faced around the globe by rising conflict, greater income inequality and declining civility. Clark, the former administrator for the United Nations Development Program (2009-2017), noted that multilateral institutions are profoundly handicapped in delivering for the countries and communities they serve. She advocated for reimagining the structure of the United Nations and its institutions.

Clark has visited the campus twice before. In 2010, she delivered the ANZAC lecture for CANZPS, entitled “A Better Tomorrow: The UN and Global Leadership for Development”. She visited the School of Foreign Service again in 2011.
